Entry #3 The Leprechaun Sighting in Crichton, Alabama 2006

I know its February but... Its almost πŸ€March πŸ€, so I wanted to do something fun! πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ€

This story is from a local news broadcast (NBC 15) in Crichton Alabama, it is a popular story on the internet that is now nearly two decades old.

In March of 2006, the local residents in Crichton Alabama gathered around a tree just before Saint's, Patrick's Day! NBC 15 noticed this and quickly picked up on the story of what was occurring within the community. The rest is internet history!

Brian Johnson was one of the news reporters on the ground looking into this story and who interviewed the residents in the community. Although the sighting of the leprechaun was never shown in a video or in the broadcast, a hilarious drawing of the supposed "leprechaun" was shown in the video.

The depiction of the supposed leprechaun appears to have a hat and a face with a no mouth. (its hard to tell because the drawing looks like it was made by some half assed sketch and this is 2006.) However, the facts of this case are pretty compelling the residents are crowded with 2006 flip phones, binoculars (LMAO binoculars πŸ‘ˆπŸ˜‚), and one guy with a cam recorder, possibly looking to capture anything on video.

 πŸ‘ˆπŸ˜‚WHAT?!?!

The next segments show interviews on speculations and theories the residents have. One of the local resident claims that "It could be a shadow..." that was casted on the tree which could give the illusion of a little green man. But one of the most compelling theories in this case is from a women, who speculates that "Could be crackhead, that got hold to the wrong stuff, and told him to get up on the tree and play a leprechaun." (I love that lady πŸ˜‚).

The last segments show some guy named Demarco Morrissett is wearing gear with glasses and happens to have a magical flute with powers to rid of spells that was passed down for "Thousands of years from my great grandfather who is Irish" and claims to be prepared for the leprechaun. (you can't make this up, oh my lord this guy is great!)

Given with the absurd and hilarious case, what did actually happening? What did the residents actually see? Because this story has absurdity, the video went viral and is now a classic in internet culture.

The broadcast does not provide any sighting of the leprechaun other than the claims, and its also possible that the news anchors were having fun since they themselves were the ones reporting the story and it was released during Saint's Patrick's day.

Lets start with Demarco and his magical leprechaun flute.... he definitely knows the secrets of the little green man. Look at him he has a PhD in Leprechauns with a minor in Magical Weapon's Combat.

This guy was just having fun during the entire chaos. In an interview by the Tosh O show, in 2011 Demarco claims, " I dunno man I was just having fun..." During the interview the host asks what really happened. Demarco claims, "Me and some guys were just hanging out, drinking one night, and this old lady comes up and says she saw it, she said she saw it and we looked up (tree) and brought it to our attention and we saw it..".

Now the supposed leprechaun sighting, which was a mystery that still remained, until 2014.

Some radio show called The Bob and Dan show, were taking a trip to the seen to uncover the mystery behind the incident. Travelling down south of Alabama they found the community and started asking residents in the area about the story. The residents claim that a local member named, "Midget Shawn" was responsible for the sighting. Supposedly, "Midget Shawn" claims to be the leprechaun who climbed the tree while dressing as a one which caused hysteria in the community. (again these are just claims we don't have evidence that it actually was him, he could just make this up).

Overall this news story is one of the funniest news broadcasts went viral during March and it still is pretty popular around Saint Patrick's Day.

I'm giving this news story a 5 out of 5 clovers πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€

  1. Hi Froylan! This was so funny to read, maybe they will find a real leprechaun one day. Now I am convinced I need a PhD in Leprechauns.
