Entry #4 Scream (2022) movie review
I love this series of movies, this is probably the only few horror movies that are consistently good.
I know scream 3 is considered the "worst" of the entire series. Personally, hot take, I think scream 3 is fine....cancel me. Some people say the voice changer seems stupid, but honestly I think its become way to relevant now.
There is now AI that can alter people voices that replicate their tone and resonance. That is scary for modern audiences, the technology of AI replicating peoples voices, using only three seconds of pitch is insane. Its terrifying, that Scream 3 in some way, predicted the future of technology, this technology can be used for scammers, criminals, and hackers and potential Craigslist serial killers to impersonate people you know.
Either way, Scream 5 (2022) was released for a decade since the last movie scream 4 (2011). And its the first movie that is not directed by Wes Craven. I really miss him, its a shame that he's gone. Wes Craven left a solid legacy on the modern horror community. With Scream 4 (2011) being his last movie directing before passing away in 2015. Scream 5 was directed by the same directors of Ready or Not (2019). Matt Bettinelli and Tyler Gillett they both were fans of the series. So they continued the franchise as Wes Cravens Legacy was.
On to the review, some things that I enjoyed about Scream 5, they bring back the cast from the series, Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette. They play their roles as always which is an obvious smart move. And they bring back the Ghostface voice actor, Roger L. Jackson another smart move. The opening scene feels like a Scream opening, the only difference is that the main character played Jenna Ortega for the first time survives. The original characters are not shown until the second to third act of the movie which I am completely fine with. The new characters, especially the sisters, they are what moves this movie, the dynamic and how they both endure the killer is believable for the most part.
David Arquette gets a lot of screen time, which I am fine with and its good. He plays the character Dewy just like before, but now there is a more mature serious version of him. Sidney felt like she was there at the last act, and it felt like she was just tired of this after like 4 movies, but she is sort of there to help a new generation. Gale is also great and the dynamic between Dewy are still there. The kills are more graphic compared to the other movies. Overall the other characters were fine, I don't think they were bad, they all played their parts.
The music feels like Scream, the strings and orchestra and they bring back some of the soundtrack.
Some minor bad aspects of this movie, is that the killer felt predictable but their motivation still felt believable. The killers were obvious from the start I could guess one of them but there was another where I still was guessing.
The fact they are toxic fandom reddit killers that were "radicalized", feels pretty accurate. There are people on the internet that are killers from Tik Tok, Reddit, 4Chan livestreams its pretty accurate. And there are people that are hyper obsessed in their fandom circles, that anything or anyone that reboots or does something. Can be meet with backlash. I think this kind of behavior has become more obvious and extreme over the years. Which makes the motivation more relevant.
Just look at The Last of Part 2, many fans canceled the game for being way too "woke" and for "ruining the game". To the point that people began sending death threats to developers and even going as far as planning how they were going to commit these acts. And the media narrative of several YOUTUBERS who radicalized, which motivated this kind of toxic behavior is criminal. You have the freedom to have and say an opinion but your freedom to swing your arm ends when your fist meets my face.
People like this are real, they exists in the real world.
Overall, Scream (2022) is 4 out of 5 sparkly hearts 💖💖💖💖❤
Ready for Scream 6!

HI, Froylan I haven't seen any other scream movies expect 5 and 6 and I'm absolutely obsessed with. I think the continued focus on new characters is really drew in me. Also, I agree with your point about the killers being radicalized being a realistic turn of events.
