Entry #5 Arizona Water Shortage Crisis

As a student and an Arizonan, this is concerning stuff. The Arizona water shortage crisis is looming closely as the climate crisis continues. Arizona will not have enough water to supply and sustain its self in the coming years.

For this blog, I'll be reviewing the article above by Olivia Lai who wrote the article, "What's happening with the Arizona Water Shortage Crisis". Which was published on May 24 2022. The article informs a pressing issue that is happening in the West and mostly in the South West. Specifically in Arizona, the author focuses on the Colorado River which has two reservoirs, Lake  Mead and Lake Powell. Which are considered Arizona's main water supply for its residents in Arizona. Her Rhetorical strategy is providing and citing her research and explaining what this means for the future of Arizona.

I think her analysis on the issue of the drought that is happening in the Colorado River is solid. She states the arguments with providing facts. Such as citing the Arizona Department of Water Resources which is the government program that is dedicated to protecting and conserving water supply in Arizona.

Although, I am skeptical with what states here, that Doug Ducey helped with placing $1 billion dollar to find new sources of Water. I think this is probably good at first but there is no clear plan what the money is going go for.

I think we need to start placing STRICT regulations on companies to dig up groundwater. Like Nevada, which they have placed stricter laws with regards to digging up groundwater. Because we would only have so much groundwater, once its digged up... there is no more water left. Currently 80% of Arizona has no laws regulating groundwater pumps.

I agree with her last statement, that there is no easy way out of this situation. We ultimately need to fix the climate crisis and reduce carbon emissions as much as possible. For the survivability of our planet and human life.
