#Hashtag Entry #7

How social media greatly influenced me in my lifetime.

In the beginning there was God named Mark Zuckerberg....
Before your aunt was posting Minion memes on her Facebook page and your grandma was radicalized by Q Annon.

There was a time were millennials would download songs (illegally) from LimeWire and actually ended up downloading a virus. A time where Myspace and Facebook were slowly kicking off into the late 2007's. Around this time I was about 5 years old as a gen z not knowing anything about the internet, there were videos on YouTube that traumatized as a child. The whole Maze Jump scare that I pissed my 5 year old SpongeBob underwear. The ghost car scare from that K-fee commercial, etc.

(πŸ‘ˆThis was Momo back in the day)

(The hell with this video and the upper one too)

This time I didn't have a phone, but social media was not really a thing of thing. I remember my mom had one of those Motorola pink flip phones. And there were also BlackBerry flip phones that were the trend. However, there was no such thing as social media like Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Twitter, Snapchat. The only thing that was trending was Facebook at the time which was only social media on a computer.
 (πŸ‘ˆπŸ˜˜)

Social Media slowly became a thing into the late 2011's as Snapchat and by this time Myspace died and Facebook was still dominating as a social media platform. Musically was rising until the later 2014's.
(πŸ‘ˆI miss this style but.. its kinda doodoo now that I think of it)

The trends which one is was more impactful:

I think Momo is scary but... I think the Scary Maze Game is way more scary because its something that traumatized me in the moment. (This is hard because both of them are very impactful on the internet) I would go with the Scary Maze Game, since it was the original starter for social media challenges. Momo was a huge trend but I feel like it was short lived, the trend lasted for like 3 months and then it died. But the Scary Maze Game was iconic that started the internet trends.

Next, we have Musically and TikTok, personally I do miss Musically but I feel TikTok improved its features like making the videos more longer adding more content features etc. Vines on the other hand I think were much more important in the beginning of social media, Vine culture is still here to stay. Now TikTok, I feel that Tik Tok is like the new Facebook for younger people, Facebook is popular for a lot middle aged older people and Tik Tok is the counter to that for the youth (although I don't have a Tik Tok my sister keeps me updated with weekly reports).

Next we have Instagram or Twitter which one is more problematic: (Warning: this is coming from someone who does not have Instagram or Twitter, this is an outsider looking in from the inside)

In my opinion, based on what I seen in the news about these social media apps, I feel that Instagram is not perfect, I feel that Instagram is like low level influencer drama and Twitter has its own problems like political culture war drama and paying $84 bucks a year for a blue check mark. And also I feel that Instagram promotes body image issues in a lot of young people. You know what...they all suck, this sucks, all forms of social media is problematic they all suck a pile of doodoo.

And next, lets talk about Reddit and 4Chan. (uh god I don't wanna do this)
Reddit and 4Chan are an amazing train wreck in their own respects. First, if you are browsing 4Chan that's a red flag, you should automatically be put on the FBI watchlist, lets leave it at that. And lastly Reddit, also needs to be moderated. There are stories on Reddit that are difficult to believe since their absurd stories are difficult to tell if they are true or not. It would leave anyone wondering what you just read.

So that's how social media impacted my life so far... although I don't use most of the platforms I mentioned, I am glad that I don't.

Peace!
